It’s been quite the year for Christmas gifts inside the Cincinnati Bengals’ locker room.Last week, quarterback Joe Burrow gifted his offensive lineman custom Japanese Samurai Katana swords, with a history dating back to the 1600s.It’s a tradition in the NFL for quarterbacks to get gifts for their lineman as a “thank you” for protecting them throughout the season.Tuesday, members of the Bengals defensive line were also the recipient of gifts, although this one won’t nearly be as memorable.Spearheaded by defensive end Joseph Ossai, Cincinnati’s rookie defensive line room was gifted boxes of coal.Ossai said the snacks, which rookies are in charge of stocking, have been “subpar” lately. WLWT’s Charlie Clifford reports Ossai dialed up a place in Dayton to drive some fresh coal down to Paycor Stadium. If there’s one thing that isn’t coal worthy, it’s the play of the much-maligned Bengals defense over the last three weeks. As Cincinnati tries to claw into the playoffs, the defense has clamped down tremendously, allowing an average of 17.6 points per game through the Bengals’ three-game winning streak.Over the first 13 weeks of the season, where the Bengals went 4-8, opponents were averaging over 28 points per game against Cincinnati.Having played must-win football since the second week of December, the Bengals have a huge opportunity to keep their season alive on Saturday, against the Denver Broncos. In addition to needing to win their final two games, the Bengals need the Broncos to lose each of their final two games, in Cincinnati and against Kansas City in Week 18.

Said the snacks, which rookies stock, have been subpar of late. Apparently dialed up a place in Dayton to drive some fresh coal down to Paycor. Hysterical.
