This year is going to be huge with celebrations right here in Chinatown on Oahu.

Festivities will continue tomorrow with a Chinatown Festival and Parade, marking the 49th year that these Lunar New Year celebrations have occurred in Oahu.

I am here with the Vice President of Chinatown 808, Sarah Young.

“We have 60 plus vendors, we have a lot of keiki activities, the Keiki Fun Zone inside Aala Park itself hosted by American Savings Bank. On top of all of that, American Savings Bank is our presenting sponsor this year as well as the last few years,” said Sarah Young, vice president of Chinatown 808. “Also we have 3 stages throughout this whole area with live entertainment all day long… You will be able to see lots of lion dances, dragon dances, festival queens, dignitaries, and a lot of other groups that you will surely enjoy.”

This upcoming year marks the Year of the Snake, which comes with numerous characteristic that defines the year.

“Snake is one of the zodiac animals in the 12 zodiacs and it is known to be clever, smart and passionate,” Young said. “So, hopefully this year, everybody is able to achieve all their passions, reach for their goals and dreams, and have a great year just like the snake.”

Tomorrow, what time will this be kicking off at?

The festivities will continue on Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will have a parade at the state capitol at 4:30 p.m.
