Parts of Vermont could see a white Christmas this year.

A winter weather advisory has been issued from today until Christmas Eve in Vermont as a snow storm moves into the region. The weather advisory starts today at 5 p.m. and last until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Christmas Eve.

“A clipper-type system will move through the North Country this evening through tonight bringing moderate snow totals and potential impacts for holiday travelers,” according to the National Weather Service branch in Burlington.

What does the forecast say for Vermont?

The National Weather Service said the forecast has changed since Friday, which “generally resulted in increasing snowfall amounts” in the forecast.

“There’s a lot of model disagreement on this storm,” National Weather Service meteorologist Tyler Danzig said on Friday. “But it looks like we will get precipitation on Christmas Eve. The storm should move out by Christmas morning.”

Danzig was correct.

Central, and northern Vermont is now forecasted to get about 3 to 6 inches of snow, possibly more.

What’s more, the National Weather Service stated that high temperatures are only expected to be in the 20s today in many regions of the state, with similar temperatures on Christmas Eve.

“Locations with breezes, like the northern Champlain Valley, will still feel like 10 degrees when wind chill is taken into account,” according to the National Weather Service.

What is the timing of the storm in Vermont?

The National Weather Service stated that, “precipitation will quickly come to an end by Tuesday night as the upper low continues to trek eastward.”

After this storm ends, a period of “quieter” weather is predicted, with temperatures being “seasonable” throughout the rest of the week. There will be a gradual “warming trend towards the weekend,” according to the National Weather Service.
