Here’s where snow stacks up most through midweek

A newly issued winter weather advisory is set to take effect this afternoon at 4 PM and will not expire until 4 PM Wednesday afternoon. Highlighted under the advisory are parts of the North Country along with portions of central and northern Vermont. Within the advisory area is where the most amount of snow is expected to fall over the next 24 to 36 hours. Here’s a fresh look at your local snow totals by Thursday afternoon.

Northern New York will tally an additional dusting to 4 inches from the valley floors (lowest amounts) to the mid-slopes of around 1,500 feet (highest totals). What’s left to accumulate at elevations of 2,000+ feet in the northern Adirondacks is a bit more significant. We’re talking an additional 4 to 8+ inches by Thursday afternoon.

Northern Vermont’s leftover snowfall scenario will play out similarly to northern New York. It’s a widespread dusting to 4 inches from the valley floors (Champlain Valley, Passumpsic River Valley, Connecticut River Valley, etc.) to the mid-slopes of about 1,500 feet. The jackpot totals will be found across the northern Greens (Jay Peak, Richford, Stowe, Mt. Mansfield, etc.) where 4 to 8+ inches will be likely with localized 12+ inch amounts in the highest peaks and summits.

Southern Vermont and the Upper Valley will see the least amount of snow during this lake effect and upslope event. Some festive flakes are likely in the lower Connecticut River Valley and into the valleys of southern Vermont. The southern Greens of Rutland and Bennington counties will pick up on an additional dusting to 2 inches with the highest peaks and summits cashing in on 4+ inches by Thursday afternoon.
