Ohio State leads Texas at the Cotton Bowl with spot in national title game on the line

ARLINGTON, Texas (WCMH) — In a meeting of powerhouse football programs, eighth-seeded Ohio State holds a 14-7 halftime lead over No. 5 Texas at the Cotton Bowl with a spot in the national championship game on the line.

The Buckeyes took an early lead on their opening drive with a nine-yard touchdown run by Quinshon Judkins. The Longhorns were able to tie the game late in the second quarter with a 18-yard touchdown pass from Quinn Ewers to Jaydon Blue. TreVeyon Henderson answered when he caught a pass from Will Howard and went 75 yards to the house, giving OSU momentum heading into the locker room.

The teams meet for the first time since the 2009 Fiesta Bowl. The Buckeyes are in a playoff semifinal for the sixth time since the playoff era began, and the Longhorns are in final four for the second year in a row. The winner will face Notre Dame in the title game on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.

A win would mark OSU’s first at AT&T Stadium since 2018 when Ryan Day served as the team’s interim coach. Ohio State is aiming to make its first championship game appearance since 2020.
