Marine Mammals of Maine says they hope to be able to return the pup to the wild eventually

Marine Mammals of Maine is caring for a gray seal pup found stranded and huddled in a thorn bush. The organization said the pup is being treated for an eye injury, respiratory infection, and malnourishment. They said the pup weaned but was having a hard time finding food, and his condition worsened as he became sick and injured. During the first week of his care, the pup was mostly inactive as he rested. Then, he started to take some short swims and was given some fish.As of Wednesday, Marine Mammals of Maine said he was able to swim for longer periods and was spending less time resting — just 10 days after first being admitted. “At this pace, he will soon require another upgrade — to the big pool with unrestricted water access! We are hopeful he will eventually get the ultimate upgrade and return to the wild, but he has a ways to go first,” the organization wrote on Facebook.
