SIESTA KEY, Fla. (WFLA) — If you’re among the millions of Americans who have been stuck dealing with a persistent polar vortex this winter, you may have your sights on somewhere warm, sunny, and sandy.
You need not travel too far. As it turns out, some beaches in the U.S. are considered among the best in the entire world.
Tripadvisor recently released its “Best of the Best” rankings for 2025, covering destinations, hotels, restaurants, things to do, and, of course, beaches.
While you can review the best beaches in the U.S. (and other countries and regions), only a handful ranked among the world’s top spots.
The top spot was claimed by Elafonissi Beach in Crete, Greece, in part due to its pink sands and turquoise waters. And sure, spots two and three were also taken by non-American beaches (Banana Beach in Phuket, Thailand, and Eagle Beach in Aruba), but coming in fourth overall was Siesta Beach in Siesta Key, Florida.
Located just off the coast of Sarasota, near Siesta Key Village, the beach offers a large parking area, concession stands, and a free trolley, according to Visit Sarasota. With over 8,500 reviews, Siesta Beach was given a 4.5-star rating.
In 2024, Siesta Beach was ranked second on Tripadvisor for the best beach in the United States and ninth in the world.
You’ll need to travel over 4,000 miles west to find the next U.S. beach to receive a spot on Tripadvisor’s worldwide ranking.
Poipu Beach Park in Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii, claimed the No. 14 spot overall. Tripadvisor reviews highlighted the available activities, including bodyboarding, surfing, and snorkeling. It’s not the top activity in Kauai, however. It was edged out by a state park and a chocolate farm, Tripadvisor shows.
Another Hawaii beach, Ka’anapali Beach in Lahaina on the island of Maui, ranked No. 22.
Tripadvisor ratings, which gave the beach a 4.5-star review overall, touted the typical beach features as well as the “daily cliff diving ceremony at Pu’u Keka’a (Black Rock), held on the northern end of the beach at sunset.”
As you can likely guess, Florida had the most beaches among Tripadvisor’s top 25 in the U.S. at nine. Hawaii had eight while California had three.
Others featured on the list include Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island in Georgia; Cannon Beach in Oregon; Sand Beach in Maine’s Acadia National Park; Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Michigan; and Ocean City Beach in Maryland.
