Woman helps unhoused Oklahomans stay warm in winter for 3 decades

THIS STORY OF WARMTH. THIS IS MICHELLE. SO I STARTED MANY YEARS AGO THROUGH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM WITH JUST COATS AND HATS AND SHOES AND BACKPACKS FOR KIDS. AND THEN IT JUST EXPANDED FROM THERE. SHE HAS TWO JOBS, BUT IN HER SPARE TIME, SHE GIVES BACK TO THOSE WHO NEED IT THE MOST. THIS ONE IS MORE BLANKETS. THIS ONE I THINK, WAS SOME CHILDREN’S CLOTHING, ESPECIALLY ON WEEKS LIKE THIS WITH BELOW FREEZING TEMPS. LAST NIGHT I THINK IT WAS 234 MILES I PUT ON MY VEHICLE. IT’S SOMETHING SHE’S DONE FOR THREE DECADES. SHE GOES AROUND THE STILLWATER AND GUTHRIE COMMUNITIES LOOKING TO SPREAD THE LOVE BY SPREADING THE WARMTH TO OUR HOMELESS POPULATION. WE HAVE SOME FOOD IN THE CAR RIGHT NOW, LOTS OF BLANKETS, COATS, SOME JEANS, HEAVIER CLOTHING, HOT HANDS. SHE SAYS THE WHY IS BIGGER THAN HER. A LOT OF THEM. IT TAKES A WHILE FOR THEM TO GAIN TRUST AND LEARN TO RESPECT US AND KNOW THAT OUR INTENTIONS ARE ALL GOOD. A MAN SHE JUST RECENTLY HELPED DAVID. WE MET DAVID THANKSGIVING DAY OUT HERE UNDER THE BRIDGE. I STAYED UNDER A LOT OF BRIDGES AND THERE DEPRESSING HARD TIMES LANDED DAVID ON THE STREETS. ENDED UP NO JOB, NO MONEY. THIS IS WHERE HE GOT OUT OF THE ELEMENTS. NO PLACE TO GO. NO FAMILY. OFTENTIMES, WE END UP TAKING SOME OF THEM HOME WITH US AFTER WE BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM. THEY MAY STAY WITH US FOR A LITTLE WHILE UNTIL THEY ARE ABLE TO GET THEIR IDS, GET A JOB, GET A VEHICLE. THAT’S THE PROBLEM WITH BEING HOMELESS. ONCE YOU’RE OUT THERE, IT’S HARD TO GET BACK TO SOCIETY AND TRY TO GET A JOB AND OR EVEN HAVE PEOPLE TRUST YOU. BUT THAT ALL CHANGED WHEN HE MET MICHELLE. SO I WAS THANKFUL THAT THEY CAME AND GAVE ME, LIKE GAVE ME AN OPPORTUNITY TO TO WORK AND GET ON MY FEET. NOW DAVID HAS A ROOF OVER HIS HEAD, A JOB AND A SUPPORT SYSTEM, ALL BECAUSE OF THE WOMAN WHO CAME KNOCKING ON HIS TENT ONE COLD WINTER NIGHT. NOBODY’S DOING IT FOR ANY GLORY. IT’S JUST TO HELP THOSE THAT NEED IT. BECAUSE SHE SAYS YOU NEVER KNOW WHOSE LIFE YOU COULD SAVE. THANKFUL. JUST THANKFUL THAT MAYBE IF I CAN GET OUT, SOMEBODY ELSE CAN. SO. AND THERE’S PEOPLE LIKE THAT THAT HELP. SO. GREAT. SO I’M VERY
