Chilling Webcam Footage Captures Passenger Jet Collide With Black Hawk Above D.C.

Shocking footage appears to show the moment a flight collided with a Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River near Reagan Washington International Airport in Washington, D.C., delaying air travel in the nation’s capital on Wednesday night.

The footage was recorded by a webcam positioned at the Kennedy Center, and later obtained by local news.

The fiery crash, which took place just after 9:00 p.m. local time, is visible in the clear night sky, and over in seconds.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the crash involved a regional jet and a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter, and American Airlines later confirmed that the jet was one of their American Eagle regional flights from Wichita, Kansas.

Military officials said that the helicopter was an Army UH-60 Black Hawk that took off from Fort Belvoir in Virginia, but have provided few other details about the aircraft.

American Airlines later confirmed that the flight, American Eagle flight 5342, had 60 passengers and four crew members. A search-and-rescue operation is currently underway for survivors.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who was sworn in only hours earlier, said he was monitoring the situation from FAA headquarters.

President Donald Trump said he was “fully briefed” on the crash in a statement on Wednesday night. “May God Bless their souls,” Trump said. Thank you for the incredible work being done by our first responders. I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they arise.”
