NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – There are numerous ways to approach gift wrapping — do it yourself, use gift bags, or let someone else do it.
If holiday shopping is on your to-do list this weekend, consider finding a gift wrapper. It’s a great way to avoid the work and help others. Tim Torch, of Warren, has a big gift list. He bought the presents, then he saw a gift-wrapping station at the Eastwood Mall.
“I actually came into the mall and then went back to my car to get what I had in there,” Torch said.
A team from Scotty’s Closet was wrapping from open to close Friday. It mainly wanted to share the story about this non-profit that started in May. It’s in memory of Kim Chupa’s son who passed away and was known for making sure others had what they needed before himself.
Chupa said wrapping gifts comes with pressure.
“It is harder because they watch you wrap the gifts, and I mess up when they’re watching,” she said.
The choices are difficult. First, which wrapping paper to choose? Then, cutting the perfect size. Next, you have to devise a plan for tackling the gift.
“The thing that is the hardest is, like socks. You’ve got to fold them up. The scarfs, stuff like that,” said Jennifer Davensizer, a gift wrapping volunteer.
The shape of a gift can make wrapping more difficult, but there’s also an approach to handling the tricky parts, like folding the corners and making them tight around the gifts.
“Have you ever done footballs? And it’s just like folding paper. You got to do those little tucks and folds, just like a football that you used to shoot in school,” Davensizer said.
Scotty’s Closet team was tackling it all with a good heart. They demonstrated pride in their work and put smiles on the faces of the people who needed the wrapping services.
“I bring my stuff here. I can give back to a great cause, and it’s just a way to spend more time with my family,” Torch said.
That gift wrapping is near the kids’ play area of the Eastwood Mall. Love Charity Alms out of Warren will be wrapping gifts on Saturday and Sunday.
