Restoration companies are getting constant calls about basement floods and expect the problem to continue.For Brad Hamblen, Sunday morning did not go as planned. “I was like, ‘Oh what’s all this water down there?'” Hamblen said. “There was like two inches of water.”Hamblen’s Union, Kentucky, basement was completely flooded. “It’s painful because I brought everything upstairs out of the basement, into the garage, put some stuff into the office, moved everything around. It took a lot of time to move that stuff,” Hamblen said.Hamblen tried to take care of the mess on his own, but threw in the towel and called Jason Cooper with Best Option Restoration. Cooper says the cause of the mess in this home was a sump pump overflow. “You can see how dirty it is, so most likely, you can see how far it’s been sitting up there for a little bit and overtime it came out,” Cooper said.This is one of many calls Cooper expects to get in the coming days, with more snow on the way and rising water levels.”It’s not a matter of if it’s going to happen, it’s when,” Cooper said.Cooper is encouraging homeowners and renters to get their papers in order before this headache costs you thousands of dollars.”Make sure you’re properly covered with insurance because you never know when it’s going to happen,” Cooper said. “It’s never going to happen at a convenient time for you.”
