Dr. Bartz, founder and executive director of GROgirlGRO, has dedicated over 30 years to special education and is passionate about fostering inclusive environments. Her work with her organization reflects her dedication to promoting diversity and inclusion, embracing girls from various racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, and disability backgrounds. Dr. Bartz’s efforts have created welcoming spaces that encourage all girls to thrive.
Founded in 2023, GROgirlGRO is recognized as a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering young girls through inclusive programs and outdoor activities in Tucson, Arizona. Over 18 months, Dr. Bartz has significantly impacted the lives of over 75 girls and their families. Initially starting with a small group of five or six girls, the program’s growth is a testament to her dedication and effectiveness. These programs have notably included activities such as mountain biking, hiking, and outdoor adventures to help build confidence in girls.
Dr. Bartz is also the owner and head coach of Sonoran Endurance Sports Academy since 2023. Her involvement in USA Cycling further underscores her commitment to promoting physical activity and sportsmanship among youth.
In preparation for her career, Dr. Bartz began at the University of Arizona, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in education in 2004. Continuing her studies on campus, she obtained a Master of Arts in severe and multiple disabilities in 2006, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in special education and family studies and human development in 2012.In addition to her academic credentials, Dr. Bartz holds several certifications that enhance her professional expertise. She is a program level one certified bike instructor through the Bike Instructor Certification Program and a certified cycling instructor.
Dr. Bartz’s vision for GROgirlGRO includes introducing new programs such as Mentor GRO Mentor, Shine Girl Shine, Camps Girl Camps and Mighty Girls Mighty. These programs aim to build confidence, independence and essential skills among participants. Dr. Bartz’s extensive experience in special education and unwavering commitment to inclusion have significantly impacted the lives of many young girls and their families. Her innovative programs continue to inspire and empower the next generation of confident and independent women.
