A Mason High School student has been arrested after allegedly making a threat to other students at a bus stop.An email to Mason City Schools said the student was arrested while at school on Thursday.Officials said the high school student allegedly made the threat toward Mason Early Childhood Center students while at a bus stop on Wednesday afternoon.Investigators used bus camera footage to identify the suspect before an arrest was made.“We know that incidents like the ones we have shared this week can be unsettling, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. Our team is taking additional steps to reinforce a culture of safety, inclusion, and respect across all grade levels,” a message to Mason families from the district said.Mason City Schools spokesperson Tracey Carson praised the young children who spoke up and reported the threat.”Even from our youngest learners, they know they can tell a trusted adult,” Carson said. “It can be their bus driver, it can be their teacher, an administrator, it can be their parent, let them know anytime something is making them feel unsafe. That happened in this case and it happens on a daily basis, where kids in our schools will report something they are worried about.”The district said it is increasing bus safety protocols on all Mason buses and will provide additional monitoring on the route involved.
