IT HAPPENED ABOUT 9:00 TONIGHT, JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS AGO, AS THAT COMMERCIAL PLANE WAS ABOUT TO LAND AT REAGAN NATIONAL AIRPORT IN ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA. SINCE THEN, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, JUST A MASSIVE SEARCH AND RESCUE EFFORT HAS BEEN UNDERWAY IN THE RIVER. WE HAVE SEEN EMERGENCY LIGHTS LINING THE BANKS ON BOTH SIDES FOR HOURS. NOW, OUR NBC AFFILIATE IN WASHINGTON JUST REPORTING THAT FOUR PEOPLE HAVE BEEN PULLED FROM THE RIVER AND RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL. NO WORD, THOUGH, ON THE DOZENS OF OTHERS ABOARD. ACCORDING TO AMERICAN AIRLINES TONIGHT, THE PLANE HAD 65 SEATS. CNN JUST REPORTING THAT THREE SOLDIERS WERE ON BOARD THE U.S. ARMY BLACK HAWK HELICOPTER. REAGAN NATIONAL WILL BE SHUT DOWN UNTIL AT LEAST 5:00 IN THE MORNING. THE FBI SAYS THERE IS NO INDICATION OF TERRORISM OR FOUL PLAY. THE FAA CONFIRMING THE JET CRASHED IN MID-AIR WITH A TYPE OF ARMY BLACKHAWK HELICOPTER WHILE IT WAS TRYING TO LAND. IT WAS COMING FROM WICHITA, KANSAS. THE FAA AND NTSB ARE NOW LOOKING INTO THIS. AMERICAN AIRLINES SAYING THEY ARE AWARE OF THE REPORTS THAT THEIR FLIGHT HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN AN INCIDENT THERE AT REAGAN NATIONAL, SAYING THEY WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION AS IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.
