SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Two men have been arrested in connection to an alleged road rage incident after the suspects reportedly chased down several victims while wielding a firearm.

Jeffrey Alan Evans, 37, was arrested on several felony charges, including aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and purchase, possession, or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony, among others.

Allen Logan Hileman, 29, was arrested on several charges, including one count of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony; and one count of reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor with a road rage enhancement.

According to arrest documents, the victims called police to report that they had been chased by a man with a gun — later identified as Evans. Documents did not provide further details about what may have led to the confrontation.

The victims said they were in the parking lot of an apartment building when Evans got out of a vehicle and began to yell at the victims. Evans is accused of returning to the vehicle, pulling out a black handgun, and pointing it at the victims, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The victims fled the scene in their own car, after which Evans ran after them on the sidewalk with the gun before getting into Hileman’s vehicle and chasing after the victims. Hileman admitted to driving the car and following after the victims, according to arrest documents.

The victims ran a red light at an intersection to try to lose the suspects, but the suspects followed after the victims and also ran the red light before the suspects turned around.

Police later found the suspect vehicle in the parking lot where the initial incident occurred. Both suspects are accused of initially lying to officers about their involvement in the incident and whether or not there was a gun involved.

Officials later learned that Evans was staying in a van in the parking lot where the incident occurred, and a handgun was recovered from that van. That handgun was determined to be stolen, and Evans had prior felony convictions for possession of a weapon by a restricted person.

Evans has a history of fleeing from police when officers attempt to arrest him on warrants, according to documents.

Both Hileman and Evans were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. Additional details regarding the suspects’ charges are below:
