Active house fire reported on West Pekin Road in Clear Creek Township
TO FALL IN THE HOURS AHEAD. GOOD MORNING TO YOU. I’M MEGAN MITCHELL. AND I’M STEVEN ALBRITTON WITH KELLY RIPPIN. THANKS FOR JOINING US. THE ROADS ARE MOSTLY CLEAR. A FEW SCHOOL DISTRICTS OUT THERE ARE STILL SWITCHING SCHEDULES. ADAMS AND BRACKEN COUNTY SCHOOLS ARE ON A TWO HOUR DELAY. GRANT AND OWEN COUNTIES ARE ON REMOTE LEARNING. THAT FULL LIST ON WLWT.COM. YES. MAYBE YOU, LIKE ME, ARE BASKING IN THIS SMALL HEAT WAVE. METEOROLOGIST RANDI RICO HERE WITH THE COLD, HARSH REALITY. RANDI BECAUSE IT’S HEADING BACK OUR WAY. YOU KNOW, THERE WAS A MELTING GOING ON YESTERDAY. AND IF YOU LOOK AT OUR TEMPERATURE RIGHT NOW, YOU’RE LIKE, ALL RIGHT. COOL. WE’RE SITTING AT AND ABOVE FREEZING. WELL, THIS IS AS WARM AS IT’S GOING TO GET TODAY. WE ALREADY HAD OUR HIGH AT MIDNIGHT. OUR TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO SLIDE DOWN TO THE LOW 20S AND STAY THERE. SO BE AWARE. ANY SPOTS THAT GOT WET. I KNOW THERE WERE A LOT OF WET ROADS ON MY WAY IN EARLY THIS MORNING. NOW AS TEMPERATURES SLIDE BACK DOWN TO THE 20S, WE NEED TO BE CAUTIOUS FOR THE POTENTIAL FOR AREAS OF BLACK ICE AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY. AS OUR TEMPERATURES SLIDE. SO RIGHT NOW IN COVINGTON, THAT’S THE TEMPERATURE AT CVG. IT’S 34. DOWNTOWN’S AT 36 WEST CHESTER MIDDLETOWN AT 34 MASON AT 34. THESE NUMBERS ARE GOING TO BE SLIDING AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE MORNING. IN FACT TAKE A LOOK BACK HERE DOWN TO FREEZING IN OXFORD AND HARRISON. CONNERSVILLE IS DOWN TO 27. THE GENERAL TEMPERATURE TREND. CHECK IT OUT BY 8 A.M. 27 DEGREES BY LUNCHTIME. LOW 20S AND THEN THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND LOW 20S. SO TEMPERATURES FALLING AS WE HEAD THROUGH THE DAY. ABOUT A 15 DEGREE DROP FROM THE WARMEST HOURS NEAR MIDNIGHT TO WHERE WE’LL BE IN THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. SO IT’S GOING TO BE COLD. WE HAVE THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME SLICK SPOTS, AND THEN TOMORROW I GET TO TALK ABOUT SNOW AGAIN. DON’T WORRY, THIS ONE’S A LITTLE ONE COMPARATIVELY, AND IT WILL BE AN IMPACT DAY. JUST BECAUSE COLD AIR AND SNOW SOMETIME BETWEEN 10 A.M. AND 3 P.M., IT’S NOT MUCH MORE THAN A GLORIFIED DUSTING, BUT AT THIS POINT, INSULT TO INJURY, RIGHT? WE’LL TALK ABOUT THE TIMELINE FOR ANOTHER BIG WARM UP THIS WEEKEND, AND THE CHANCE FOR IT TO BRING BOTH RAIN AND SNOW COMING UP. KELLY. OKAY, RANDI. THANK YOU. HAPPENING TODAY A BIG STEP FORWARD FOR REPAIRS ON THE DANIEL CARTER BEARD BRIDGE, BETTER KNOWN AS THE BIG MAC BRIDGE. STEEL BEAMS REPLACING THE ONES DAMAGED BY THAT HUGE FIRE BACK IN NOVEMBER ARE ABOUT TO GO IN PLACE. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S RICHARD CHILES IS LIVE NEAR THE BRIDGE NOW. RICHARD. THIS IS REALLY SOME GREAT NEWS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING AND WAITING, AND WHO WILL STILL BE WAITING FOR THOSE SOUTHBOUND LANES TO REOPEN. NOW, STEPHEN, A BIG SMILE FOR AREA COMMUTERS GETTING AN IDEA NOW FROM THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION THAT THIS PROJECT REMAINS ON SCHEDULE TO REOPEN THOSE SOUTHBOUND LANES BY MARCH. A BIG MILESTONE SEEING THREE OF THOSE BEAMS GETTING HERE YESTERDAY, KNOWING THAT THEY’LL BE PUT IN PLACE LATER THIS MORNING. NOW GETTING AN IDEA AGAIN THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE AN ON TIME PROJECT. SEEING THOSE BEAMS A VERY GOOD SIGN FOR SO MANY FOLKS. THOSE BEAMS ARRIVING HERE LAST NIGHT, CUSTOM BUILT TO REPLACE THE ONES THAT WERE WARPED BY THE FLAMES. FOR MORE OF THOSE BEAMS ARE BEING DELIVERED LATER THIS WEEK. THEY’RE HUGE NOW, PUTTING THEM INTO PERSPECTIVE, EACH ONE OF THEM WEIGHS OVER 27,000 POUNDS. THE BIGGEST ONE, ALMOST 100FT LONG. ONCE THOSE BEAMS ARE IN PLACE, IRONWORKS WILL HAVE TO SECURE THEM WITH FASTENERS AND STEEL PLATES. ONLY THEN CAN THE CONCRETE DECKING GO INTO PLACE. THEY’LL CONTINUE DOING ALL OF THE STEEL WORK AND THEY’LL BE WORKING 24 HOURS. SEVEN. I MEAN, IT WILL BE LIKELY THEY’LL BE DOING TWO 12 HOUR SHIFTS A DAY. THEY’LL JUST CONTINUALLY WORK. THEY’VE GOT CREWS LINED UP READY TO GO. SO AS LONG AS WE DON’T HAVE ANY REALLY SIGNIFICANT WEATHER IMPACTS, THEY’LL BE OUT THERE WORKING UNTIL THEY GET TO THE POINT WHERE WE’RE READY TO POUR THAT CONCRETE DECK. NOW, AGAIN, A GOOD SIGN FOR THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. SEEING THOSE BEAMS ARRIVE HERE YESTERDAY. AGAIN, THE ADDITIONAL ONES COMING LATER THIS WEEK. WE’LL CERTAINLY CONTINUE TO FOLLOW UP, BRING YOU THE LATEST ON THIS PROJECT AND GETTING THE A THE BRIDGE REOPENED. REPORTING LIVE THIS MORNING. RICHARD CHILES WLWT NEWS FIVE. BRIDGET, THANK YOU SO MUCH. NOW FOUR PEOPLE ARE CHARGED IN CONNECTION TO THE FIRE UNDER THE BRIDGE, AND TWO OF THEM FACE CHARGES OF AGGRAVATED ARSON. THEIR CASES ARE STILL MOVING THROUGH THE COURT SYSTEM. WE ARE KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON ALL OF THEM. WE WILL BRING YOU ANY DEVELOPMENTS ON WLWT.COM AND ON OUR NEWS APP. 505 HERE ON YOUR MONDAY MORNING NEW ON WLWT, A FAMILY IS SHARING THEIR CLOSE CALL WITH CARBON MONOXIDE. JUST LAST WEEK WE TOLD YOU ABOUT THE DANGERS OF SNOW. ICE AND COLD WEATHER CAN BRING TO YOUR HOME. AND NOW WE’RE HEARING FROM PEOPLE WHO DEALT WITH THOSE DANGERS FIRSTHAND AND WLWT NEWS FIVE’S JACQUELINE MALUKA IS LIVE AT THE ALEXANDRIA FIRE DEPARTMENT WITH THEIR STORY. GIACOMO. YEAH. MEGAN. WELL, THE FAMILY TELLS US THAT THEY HAD BEEN FEELING SICK FOR DAYS, STUCK INSIDE BECAUSE OF THE SNOW. IT WASN’T UNTIL A FAMILY MEMBER LEFT THE HOUSE AND RETURNED THAT THEY SMELLED GAS AND CALLED 911. WHEN FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED, ONE OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS TELLS US THAT THEIR CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS WERE GOING OFF. THAT’S ACCORDING TO THE HOMEOWNER AND MOTHER OF NINE, WHITNEY JOLLEY. THE FIREFIGHTERS TOLD US THE LEVELS REACHED MORE THAN TEN TIMES THE SAFE LIMIT INSIDE THEIR HOME, AND THEN THEY LEARNED THE CAUSE. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. THEY HAD US ALL EVACUATE THE HOUSE AND CAME IN AND TRIED TO DETERMINE FIRST, DO WE HAVE A LEAK OF SOME SORT WITH A PROPANE GAS ON ANY OF OUR APPLIANCES OR OUR FURNACES? AND THAT DIDN’T SEEM TO BE THE CASE. SO THEY KNEW TO LOOK IMMEDIATELY TO SEE IF THE SNOW HAD BLOCKED ANY OF THE EXHAUST PIPES WHICH HAD HAPPENED, AND IT WAS JUST BACKING UP INTO OUR BASEMENT. NOW THE FAMILY SAYS IT WAS AN INCREDIBLY CLOSE CALL, AND THEY’RE VERY THANKFUL FOR FIREFIGHTERS FOR COMING OUT TO HELP WITH THAT. NOW, THEY’VE SINCE INSTALLED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR DETECTORS THROUGHOUT THEIR HOUSE TO PREVENT ANY FUTURE INCIDENTS. AND THEY’VE ALSO CALLED EXPERTS OUT TO HELP CLEAR THE SNOW AND ICE. AND ANY OF THOSE EXHAUST ISSUES. YOU CAN HEAR FROM THEM COMING UP AT 530 ON NEWS FIVE TODAY. WE’RE LIVE IN AL
