GREEN – Akron-Canton Airport saw climbing passenger numbers last year, jumping by more than 10% from 2023’s total.
Akron-Canton (CAK) served 759,545 flyers last year compared to 686,661 in 2023, according to airport statistics listed on its website.
“The major reason (for the passenger jump) was due to more seats offered by Allegiant and Breeze (airlines),” said Lisa Dalpiaz, vice president of air service and business development. “American and United also added flights last year.”
Dalpiaz said the airport wants to continue growing its passenger numbers. But it’s somewhat handicapped with the amount of aircraft available at the locale.
Breeze and Allegiant have both more than tripled their flight options since starting to offer service at Akron-Canton, Dalpiaz said.
In Allegiant’s first year — 2022 — the airline offered three flights and increased to 10 last year. Breeze also went from three to 10 after starting operations in 2021, Dalpiaz said.
Akron-Canton is seen by many flyers as more accessible, or convenient, for passenger dropoff and pickup. Less expensive parking options can be a plus compared to larger airports, Dalpiaz said.
“We’re happy with the (perks) we get,” said Dalpiaz, adding that the airport last cracked 800,000 passengers in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Akron-Canton aims to reach 800,000 passengers this year, Dalpiaz said.
Allegiant is adding a flight to Nashville that’s scheduled to begin in March, Dalpiaz said. Starting in May, the airline will offer service to Jacksonville and Destin, Florida.
More passengers reported at Cleveland Hopkins airport in 2024
Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) served more than 10 million people in 2024, the first time the airport has reached that many since 2019.
Overall, 10,173,861 travelers were reported by the Cleveland airport via a Jan. 28 summary report.
The total passenger mark was 99.3% of the facility’s 2024 forecast, which was about 10,250,000. It represented a 3% increase from 2023.
A main factor for the jump was due to Frontier Airlines investing more resources into Cleveland, said Michelle Dynia, an airport spokeswoman.
“Frontier established a crew base here (last year), which increased their passenger activity 32%,” she said.
The airport’s 2025 passenger forecast is expected to rise to 10.4 million.
