She works closely with research and development teams to identify and develop new hair care technologies, ensuring that innovative products are accessible and affordable for consumers across various retail channels.
Prior to her current position, Dr. Taylor-Jackson honed her expertise in skincare research and development at Johnson & Johnson. Her work there laid the foundation for her current focus on hair care, allowing her to apply her extensive knowledge of surface chemistry and nanomaterials to the beauty industry. Finishing her academic experience, her PhD dissertation on nanomaterials enabled her to expertly characterize and customize various surface types, deepening her understanding of surface chemistry.
Dr. Taylor-Jackson’s academic journey began with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Winston-Salem State University. She furthered her education by earning both a master’s degree and a PhD in chemistry from Louisiana State University. Her academic achievements have been pivotal in her career, providing her with the technical expertise necessary to excel in the beauty industry. She attributes much of her success to the support of family, friends and mentors who encouraged her perseverance during challenging times. Their encouragement has instilled in her a sense of purpose and recognition, reinforcing that she is on the right track.
Dr. Taylor-Jackson gives special credit to her husband, Michael Jackson, who has guided and supported her throughout her career. Despite the challenges of her field and the late-night lab sessions, he always encouraged her and even assisted her in the lab to ensure she could finish her work. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Taylor-Jackson is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., where she advocates for diversity and inclusion within STEM fields. Her commitment to increasing the representation of women and underrepresented groups in STEM is evident through her participation in a commercial for BET, highlighting scholarships provided by Procter & Gamble aimed at closing the STEM gap. This commercial aired during the BET Awards in 2022, reaching over a million households.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Taylor-Jackson is interested in music and enjoys dancing hip hop, skating, and DJing. In the upcoming years, she is passionate about promoting inclusivity within the beauty industry from a STEM perspective. She believes women must have a voice in determining products that suit them best, advocating for their representation in shaping market offerings such as lipstick and hair-detangling techniques.
