A Clermont County man was indicted for 93 counts of theft and fraud on Thursday.According to prosecutors, Cody Winn, 27, of Batavia, ran a fraudulent online business called Market Modern LLC.Winn allegedly promised investors that they would receive a full return on their initial investment after three months, followed by ongoing profits.One victim said that they had provided Winn $25,000 to fund the creation of an automated Amazon store; however, after months without progress, they were unable to contact anyone to get a refund.Winn allegedly also marketed himself on a YouTube channel where he went by the pseudonym of Cody Clay.Through a subsequent investigation by the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, 30 more investors were found to have entrusted amounts that range between $25,000 and $60,000 to Clay.The total amount reported stolen between all of Winn’s victims was $965,500. The victims were located across 16 different states.The scheme was allegedly run by Winn between March and September of 2023. Winn was taken into custody on Thursday without incident and is currently being held in the Clermont County Jail, where he is being held without bond.He will appear before Common Pleas Judge Anthony Brock at 10 a.m. for arraignment. He faces 62 counts of theft and 31 counts of telecommunications fraud, all felonies.
