Brawl over Pokémon cards breaks out at California Costco

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) — In a video posted to social media, two people appeared to be embroiled in a scuffle over Pokémon cards sold at a Los Angeles-area Costco.

The fight, captured on video by X user DisguisedToast, unfolded on Jan. 16 at the Costco in Atwater Village, the Los Angeles Times reported.

In the footage, a crowd of around a dozen people was clamoring to get to some boxes, presumably where the collectible card games were being held, when two adult men who seemed to be caught in a tug-of-war over some of the cards swung into the frame.

One of the men, wearing a green jacket, ends up with his arms around the other bearded man wearing glasses and a ball cap. During the awkward struggle, at least one store employee, as well as several nearby, watch the ordeal while others try to make their way around the tussle.

Just moments into the fight, a young woman approaches the duo, yelling, “Stop! Let go!”

It’s unclear if she was related to one of the men and was, perhaps, concerned for their safety or if she was just another customer at the store, possibly embarrassed over the mildly violent display.

Increasingly frustrated with the situation, the bearded gentleman throws a hard elbow that appears to land in the face of the gentleman in the green jacket.

“Get the f— off me, bro!” the bearded man yells, still in other man’s grasp.

After the blow to the face, at least one person approaches the pair and suggests that they calm down, while in the background, someone is heard saying, “Just call PD. Call PD, man.”

The Times reports that the police, in fact, were not called and are not investigating the incident and that officials at Costco had not yet responded to their request for comment.

It’s unknown if either of the two men left the store with the Pokémon products they wanted.
