Charlotte spot known for its bagels, hog dogs and brats has closed its doors

The Good Wurst Company is closed, but a sign posted on the front door of the Charlotte restaurant promises: “Re-opening soon. Thanks.”

However, manager Jennifer Kartina told Charlotte Business Journal that despite the sign, the property has been rented out and Good Wurst will not reopen. “I can confirm, it’s closed for good,” Kartina told CBJ. “It’s just very sad.”

For several days, the restaurant has not accepting online orders for its trademark bagels, hot dogs and brats at its remaining OG location in Plaza Midwood. CharlotteFive called the phone number, which goes straight to a message saying its voicemail hasn’t been set up.

Two messages sent via Instagram haven’t been returned. And Good Wurst’s social media accounts on Instagram and Facebook haven’t seen a fresh post since last fall.

The Plaza Midwood location had a short temporary closure in 2023, after a smoker caught on fire.

Around that time, its Riverbend Village location on Corning Place had opened, but that location didn’t last. Owners told Charlotte Business Journal last year that the area wasn’t supporting the concept.

Later in 2024, the South End location closed amid a legal battle with the restaurant’s landlord, CBJ reported.

Good Wurst serves bagels and breakfast sandwiches in the mornings, and hot dogs, sausages and sandwiches for lunch and dinner.
