BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — The ovens are hot at Cocca’s Pizza, and something is always cooking. Usually, it’s a pizza. For Super Bowl Sunday, the ovens will be full.
“It’s probably about four times as busy as a normal Sunday,” Steve Cocca said. “It creates a nice atmosphere, and the day goes by pretty quick.”
Cocca says preparation started about a month ago, and he had a meeting with his team earlier this week about the Super Bowl.
He said getting the supplies is not hard at all. The prep work behind the scenes is more difficult because they want to make sure everyone can get their favorite items.
“Most popular thing for the Super Bowl, it’s split between pizza and wings,” Cocca said. “Almost every order is getting wings, and some folks come just for the wings.”
Staffing is the main ingredient. Cocca’s will have all hands on deck to prepare orders. Their teamwork is similar to what you see on the field.
Sunday is going to be one busy day. Some of the pizza boxes are assembled already.
“We start rocking and rolling at four o’clock. You’re in it. By the time we get to like 5, 5:30, you’re in the heart of it. And then kick off, that all changes,” Cocca said. “The phone stops ringing a little bit. And the other thing where the phone stops ringing is on the first commercials.”
That’s when the workers can take a breath and start to watch the game. It’s almost game time for the Cocca’s team. They want to make sure you’re not watching the Super Bowl on an empty stomach.
“The best advice, yeah, call in when you know your order. Doesn’t matter what day. You can call in today. We’ll have it ready for you for a certain time. That’s the easiest and smoothest way,” Cocca suggested.
Cocca told First News they get busier on Super Bowl Sundays when the Steelers or 49ers are playing. The Browns have never played in a Super Bowl. He alluded to wanting to see how busy it would be if Cleveland made it to the big game.
