Be it further resolved, that the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners encourages all citizens, businesses, organizations, and community leaders to participate in and support the events and activities marking this significant milestone in the county’s history.
An open house was also held on Friday, Jan. 10, the official date of formation of the county, to celebrate 200 years of Calhoun County.
Commissioner Simon said this extraordinary milestone is an excellent time to reflect on the history of Calhoun County and look ahead to the future.
“Today, we gather to celebrate an extraordinary milestone: 200 years of Calhoun County. This is a moment to honor our past, embrace our present, and dream boldly about our future,” Commissioner Simon’s statement read. “Two centuries ago, our pioneers arrived here with nothing but grit, faith, and a vision. They looked out over the rolling bluffs and the winding rivers and saw not just wilderness, but opportunity. They carved homes from the forests, tilled the soil, and built a community grounded in hard work resilience, and an unwavering spirit.
That pioneer spirit still defines us today. It is in our farmers who rise with the sun to tend the land, our small business owners who innovate and adapt, and our families who pass down stories, values, and traditions that anchor us to our roots.
As we celebrate this bicentennial, let us reflect on the lessons of the past. Our pioneers faced challenges— weathering storms, navigating change, and rebuilding when times were tough.
They taught us that no obstacle is too great when we stand together, bound by shared purpose and community.
Looking ahead, we see a world of rapid change and exciting possibilities. It is our pioneer spirit— adaptable, courageous, and forward-looking—that will carry us into the future. Whether it’s fostering innovation, preserving our natural beauty, or investing in our people, the next chapter of Calhoun County will be written by the same determination that brought us here today.
So, let us honor the trailblazers who came before us by blazing our own trailers, ensuring that the legacy of Calhoun County continues to shine for the next 200 years. Together, with gratitude for our past and hope for tomorrow, we will build a future worthy of this incredible place we call home.”
