For the tenth straight year, the boys’ 50th District championship tournament will feature Corbin versus South Laurel in the finals.
The Cardinals improved to 22-8 on the year Tuesday with a 54-18 victory over tournament host Williamsburg. In the late game, the Redhounds outlasted the Whitley County Colonels, 58-46, to improve to 19-9.
Corbin and South will meet for the third time this season Friday evening at 7 p.m. In their first encounter, the Hounds came away with a 66-52 victory at home on Jan. 14. The Cards took the second game, winning, 56-35, in London on Jan. 31. The third meeting will take place on a neutral court, inside J.B. Mountjoy Gymnasium at Williamsburg High School, and will determine who will enter regional tournament play as this year’s 50th District champion.
Concluding their 2024-25 campaigns Tuesday were the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets (17-10) and the Whitley Colonels (19-11). The Jackets will be hit hard by graduation this year, as they will say goodbye to their top five scorers on the season – Andrew Smith, Conner Saylor, Cooper Prewitt, Nate Goodin and Lakin Cunagin. The Colonels will lose seniors Aaron Rowe and Javon Rider, but will return top scorers Bryson “Tootie” Mahan, Riley Fuson, Levi Jackson, Garrett Sharp, Dee Parker and Henry Bowling.
