Legendary actor Denzel Washington gets minister’s license at New York City church
Did Attenborough, you didn’t check your performance on Saint elsewhere to give you this uh this part. Yeah. Actually, I think he saw, uh *** soldier story. The story I was told was that, uh when he was filming um, *** chorus line in New York, he was already thinking about doing this picture by freedom and that he wa he wanted to see *** soldier story. Uh Actually, I think to look at another actor. Where are you from? Peterson? Hollywood, California. Um by way of Alabama, sir, he saw me and, and, uh, I guess was pleased with my work. Most of the women who have whack payments are domestic maids. So they only get to see their kids for *** couple of hours on Sundays did, uh Donald Woods tell you how Biko acted in the way he talked. Well, I mean, just from reading his books, first of all, I got *** good insight into his respect and, and, and admiration for Steve and, and yes, he did, you know, on the set, he would tell me little stories and little, evidently, Steve was quite AAA joker. You know, they would play tricks on each other. All the time. They were really close friends then. Yeah, I think so. Yes. Let me ask you this as *** television star. You find that sometimes you’re not considered for parts because you’re on television. Um, well, I think I’m in *** unique situation. First of all, I think Saint elsewhere is ***, is *** television show that’s, that, uh, is better than *** lot of films that are made and it, it, it, it gains *** certain amount of respect from the film making community as well as film watching community. Um I think because I had the opportunity to do *** soldier’s story and the play prior to that and play the same role in same way. And with it being an Oscar nominated picture, it kind of gave me ***, an opportunity to. Now, for example, when I did this film power for Sidney lame, when I met him, uh he, they basically just offered me the part and, and when I met him, which was the first day of rehearsal, I said, well, you know, how did, what happened, how did I get the parts? And I assumed that it had to do with soldiers story, *** soldier story and it didn’t. He said I saw you on Saint elsewhere and stop following me. Isn’t the son supposed to follow in his dad’s footsteps? Washington’s first film role was in the 1981 comedy Flop, Carbon Copy. He played *** teenager who turns out to be the long lost son of George Segal. Do you really expect to come and live with us? Are you ashamed of me, Dad? And stop calling me dad? What am I supposed to call you? Well, I don’t know why *** comedy, carbon copy, you know, you’ve done. Was that *** comedy, wasn’t it? I don’t know, it was funny to me, but I thought *** real laugher anyway. I laughed till I cried. Oh, I cried till I laugh.
