MONTANA – The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated Carbon County as a primary county eligible for emergency farm loans due to ongoing drought conditions.
Carbon County is not alone in receiving this assistance. Yellowstone, Big Horn, Park and Stillwater counties in Montana, as well as Big Horn and Park Counties in Wyoming, are also eligible for these loans. The Farm Service Agency (FSA) provides emergency loans during natural disasters such as droughts, wildfires, earthquakes, or floods.
The loans aim to help farmers restore property and cover essential costs. They can be used to replace essential items like equipment or livestock, reorganize farming operations, or refinance certain debts. The FSA reviews loans based on the extent of losses, available security, and repayment ability.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, these counties have experienced severe drought conditions, with a drought intensity value of D2 Drought-Severe for eight or more consecutive weeks, or D3 Drought-Extreme or D4 Drought-Exceptional.
The deadline to apply for an emergency loan is August 11, 2025. Farmers are encouraged to apply before this date to secure the necessary support.
