New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board issues boil water advisory for East Bank of New Orleans
THE LATEST ON THIS. AND BRITTANY, WHAT ARE LEADERS TELLING YOU? YEAH, RANDY. WELL, LEADERS ARE ASKING THAT YOU CONSERVE WATER. THAT MEANS LIMIT USING THINGS LIKE DISHWASHERS AND WASHING MACHINES. AND OF COURSE, AS YOU JUST MENTIONED, BOILING THAT WATER BEFORE USING IT. NOW THIS BOIL WATER ADVISORY HAS BEEN IN EFFECT SINCE SUNDAY AFTERNOON. RIGHT NOW, SEWERAGE AND WATER BOARD LEADERS CONFIRM THAT THE WATER QUALITY TESTING IS CURRENTLY HAPPENING FOR THE ENTIRE EAST BANK OF ORLEANS PARISH. THIS INCLUDES ANYONE FROM THE WEST RIVERSIDE AREA ALL THE WAY PAST PIKE FORT. OFFICIALS SAY WATER PRESSURE DROPPED DUE TO A POWER SURGE AT THE CARROLLTON WATER TREATMENT PLANT, BUT THE SOURCE OF THAT POWER SURGE IS UNCLEAR. THE PUMPING HAS BEEN RESTORED, BUT CONSERVING WATER IS STILL A REQUEST FROM LEADERS FOR MANY BUSINESS OWNERS IN THE AREA. THIS IS YET ANOTHER BLOW AFTER LOSING BUSINESS LAST WEEK BECAUSE OF THE SNOW. WE UNPLUGGED THE ICE MACHINE. WE USE YESTERDAY’S ICE AS FAR AS WATER. REQUEST FROM THE GUEST GO. WE JUST STOCK UP ON BOTTLED WATER AND THAT’S WHAT WE SERVE OUR GUESTS. AND AS FAR AS THE FOOD GOES, YOU KNOW, WE’RE MOSTLY SELLING CRAWFISH HERE AT KSC. SO THAT’S BOILED WATER. IT’S SPICY BOILED WATER BEFORE THE SEAFOOD GOES IN THE POT. SAME WITH THE CORN SAUSAGE, POTATOES, ETC. AND SOME WAYS TO PROTECT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY DURING THIS TIME IS OF COURSE USING BOTTLED WATER FOR JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU NEED IT FOR. IF YOU HAVE TO WASH YOUR HANDS WITH TAP WATER, THOUGH, DO SO USING SOAP AND WATER AND THEN APPLY HAND SANITIZER AFTERWARDS. AND OF COURSE, AS WE MENTIONED, BOILING THAT WATER, BRINGING IT TO A ROLLING BOIL FOR AT LEAST ONE MINUTE BEFORE USING IT OR CONSUMING IT. AND MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT DRINK THE WATER. REPORTING LIVE IN NEW ORLEANS BRITTANY VERNER, WDSU NEWS. SOME GREAT ADVICE HERE, BRITTANY. THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND TO KNOW WHICH AREAS STILL HAVE THOSE BOIL WATER ADVISORIES IN PLACE, OR TO KNOW WHEN THE PARISHES WILL LIFT THEM. YOU CAN DOWNLOAD OUR FREE WDSU MOBILE APP OR VISI
