Wolf Moon: First full moon of 2025 to cross paths with Mars tonight

AVOID THAT FOR NOW. ONE POST. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE FORECAST. ALLISON, BECAUSE, WELL, IT FELT LIKE A WARM UP FOR A SINGLE DAY. IT’S ALREADY PASSED. YES. AND TEMPERATURES ARE JUST FALLING FOR THE REST OF TODAY. THE GOOD THING IS, IS WE’RE SUNNY OUTSIDE, SO THAT IS NICE, RIGHT? A WELCOME CHANGE AS WE FINALLY START TO SEE THOSE CLOUDS CLEARING OUT OF HERE. THAT’S ALSO GOING TO BE SHORT LIVED THOUGH, BECAUSE TOMORROW WE’LL SEE THE CHANCE FOR SOME MORE SNOWFALL. IT’S DRY OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW. COLD FRONT HAS MOVED THROUGH. THAT IS WHY TEMPERATURES HAVE ALREADY HIT THEIR HIGH FOR THE DAY. AND WE’LL JUST CONTINUE TO FALL DOWN FOR THE REST OF YOUR MONDAY. SO WE START OFF IN THE 30S EARLY ON THIS MORNING, BUT NOW WE’RE SITTING IN THE 20S AND WE’LL STILL SEE TEMPERATURES FALLING A LITTLE BIT MORE THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THIS AFTERNOON. WE ARE SITTING AT 26 RIGHT NOW IN CINCINNATI, BUT NOTICE OXFORD 26 AS WELL. HARRISON SITTING AT 25. IT’S 20 IN CONNERSVILLE, 21 IN BATESVILLE. THAT COLD AIR IS GOING TO KEEP JUST PUSHING IN HERE, EVENTUALLY BRINGING AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES DOWN TO THE LOW 20S AND THEN TEENS THROUGHOUT THIS EVENING. MEANWHILE, IF YOU ARE IN MAYSVILLE, YOU ARE STILL SITTING JUST BARELY ABOVE FREEZING. IT’S 33 DEGREES THERE RIGHT NOW. WE’LL START TO SEE TEMPERATURES FALLING THROUGHOUT THE REST OF GREATER CINCINNATI HERE IN THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO, AS THAT COLD AIR FILTERS IN. WE HAVE 26 NOW, BUT DOWN TO ABOUT 24 THIS AFTERNOON. 22 I SHOULD SAY THIS AFTERNOON, A FOUR DEGREE DIFFERENCE IN TEMPERATURES THIS EVENING, TEMPERATURES START TO FALL DOWN TO ABOUT 18 DEGREES. WE’LL STAY PARTLY SUNNY FOR THE REST OF THE DAY, SO AT LEAST WE GET SOME SUNSHINE OUT OF THIS RIGHT TONIGHT. SKIES REMAIN CLEAR AND EVENTUALLY TOMORROW WE’LL START TO SEE MORE CLOUDS MOVING IN HERE WITH OUR NEXT CHANCE OF SOME SNOWFALL COMING INTO PLAY ON TUESDAY. SO THROUGHOUT THE REST OF TODAY, WE DO STAY NICE AND DRY. WE’LL SEE SOME CLOUDS TRYING TO MAKE THEIR WAY BACK INTO THE AREA HERE THROUGHOUT THE OVERNIGHT, WHICH LIKELY IF WE END UP SEEING ENOUGH CLOUD COVER EARLY ENOUGH, ACTUALLY HELPS US OUT WITH KEEPING TEMPERATURES TONIGHT FROM FALLING WAY, WAY DOWN. BUT WE WILL START TO SEE TEMPERATURES HEADED BACK TO THE ZERO DEGREE MARKER BY THE MIDDLE OF THIS WEEK. SO TOMORROW WE START OFF NICE AND DRY, BUT EVENTUALLY BY ABOUT MIDDAY, WE’LL START TO SEE SOME SNOW SHOWERS MOVING INTO THE AREA. FINALLY, THE TIMING OF THIS ACTUALLY ISN’T TOO TERRIBLE FOR US BECAUSE A LOT OF IT’S COMING DOWN DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, DURING THE WORK DAY, SO CLOSER TO ABOUT NOON TOMORROW, WE’LL START TO SEE THAT CHANCE FOR SOME LIGHT SNOW IN THE AREA. AFTER THAT, SNOW CHANCES START TO WRAP. SHORTLY AFTER ABOUT 3 OR 4:00 IN THE AFTERNOON, AND THEN WE WILL STAY DRY FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT. SO THAT IS SOME GOOD NEWS THERE. I DO THINK THERE WILL BE SOME LIGHT ACCUMULATIONS FROM THIS. GENERALLY HALF AN INCH OR LESS, SO THAT IS SOMETHING ELSE TO KEEP IN MIND. SO WATCH OUT FOR SOME SLICK SPOTS THROUGH THE DAY OF COURSE. AND AS THAT SNOW IS COMING DOWN, OF COURSE WATCH OUT FOR SLICK SPOTS. BUT THAT TIMELINE, ANYWHERE FROM ABOUT MID-MORNING TO THE MIDDLE OF THE AFTERNOON, POTENTIALLY AS LATE AS ABOUT 4:00 TOMORROW AFTERNOON. TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE AN IMPACT DAY FOR THAT REASON, BY WEDNESDAY. WATCH OUT FOR THE COLD TO REALLY SETTLE IN HERE. I ACTUALLY THINK WEDNESDAY IS GOING TO BE THE COLDEST DAY OF THE WEEK, WITH TEMPERATURES FALLING DOWN IN THE MORNING ON WEDNESDAY TO RIGHT AROUND ZERO DEGREES. SO THAT IS WHY WEDNESDAY IS A WEATHER IMPACT DAY. DO KEEP IN MIND AS WELL ANYTHING THAT MOVES IN HERE AS FAR AS SNOW IS CONCERNED ON TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY. WATCH OUT FOR SOME SLICK SPOTS WITH THAT. TEMPERATURES IN THE MORNING AROUND ZERO DEGREES, THEN HIGH TEMPERATURES ONLY INTO THE TEENS. WE’LL TOP OUT CLOSER TO ABOUT 19 WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. AFTER THAT, WE START TO WARM UP, WARMING UP SO MUCH SO THAT ON SATURDAY WE ACTUALLY HAVE A CHANCE TO SEE SOME RAI

Wolf Moon: First full moon of 2025 to cross paths with Mars tonight

January’s full moon is called the “wolf moon” and you can see it in the skies tonight.Known as the Wolf Moon, the name apparently comes from the packs of wolves heard howling outside the villages amid the cold and deep snows of winter. The full moon will peak Monday evening at 5:27 p.m. According to NASA, the moon will appear full for about three days around this time, from Sunday evening (and possibly the last part of Sunday morning) into Wednesday morning. On the night of the full Moon, for most of the country, the moon will pass in front of the planet Mars. The event will cause Mars to disappear from sight behind the moon for a little over an hour. The exact timing depends on your location, but most in the Cincinnati region will see it shortly after 9 p.m. Mars will reappear roughly an hour and fifteen minutes later.”When the Moon passes in front of a planet or a star, it is known as a lunar occultation. Occultations of planets can be relatively rare and visibility depends on your location. This is a great opportunity for our region to witness Mars disappearing from the night sky!” Dr. Wes Ryle, Astronomer for the Cincinnati Observatory, said.Ryle said no special equipment is needed to see the event. Ryle says the next lunar occultation of Mars visible from the United States will not happen until 2042.
