RICHARD CHILES WLWT NEWS FIVE. ALL RIGHT, SO WE SAW A FEW INCHES OF RAIN IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY YESTERDAY, BUT KENTUCKIANS FURTHER SOUTH, THEY SAW SOME DEVASTATING AND DEADLY FLOODS. WE NOW KNOW THAT EIGHT PEOPLE ARE DEAD, INCLUDING A MOTHER AND HER SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD THAT WERE SWEPT AWAY IN THE FLOOD WATERS. OFFICIALS SAY THE DEATH TOLL IS EXPECTED TO RISE. OVER 1000 RESCUES HAVE HAPPENED IN JUST 24 HOURS, AND MORE THAN 30,000 HOMES ARE WITHOUT POWER. GOVERNOR ANDY BESHEAR SAYS FEMA HAS BEEN SENT TO THE COMMONWEALTH TO HELP WITH SEARCH AND RECOVERY. BESHEAR TELLING KENTUCKIANS TO STAY OFF THE ROADS AS FLOODING CONTINUES. JUST DON’T GET ON THE ROADWAYS. DON’T GIVE TIME FOR THE WATER TO TO GO DOWN. SO MANY OF THESE FATALITIES WERE DUE TO ATTEMPTS TO DRIVE THROUGH WATER AND THROUGH MOVING WATER. SO FOLKS, STAY OFF THE ROADS RIGHT NOW AND STAY ALIVE. BESHEAR ALSO ANNOUNCING THAT PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP HAS APPROVED THE STATE’S EMERGENCY DISASTER DECLARATION REQUEST. THIS MEANS THAT FEDERAL FUNDING IS NOW AVAILABLE TO HELP

Flood warnings were issued by the National Weather Service for several parts of the Tri-State area Sunday night.This includes those who live along the Ohio River in Adams County, Ohio, as well as on the Kentucky side of the river within Lewis County.Segments of the Ohio River closer to Cincinnati were not placed under a flood warning.Meanwhile, flood warnings have also been issued for those who live near the Little Miami River in the northeastern portion of Warren County and southwestern portion of Greene County. Other segments of the Little Miami River that run through Hamilton County were not placed under a flood warning.In southeast Indiana, those who live near the Laughery Creek in Dearborn, Ohio and Ripley counties are similarly expected to be impacted by flooding.Meanwhile, in northern Kentucky, those who live near the Kentucky River in Owen and Henry counties, as well as downstream of the Licking River within Robertson, Harrison and Nicholas counties are also expected to be impacted by flooding.A full map of affected areas can be found in neon green below, or by visiting the National Weather Service’s website.
