Following announcement of All-Pro honors, Burrow’s MVP chances appear to fade away
Following the announcement of the Associated Press’s All-Pro team honors, the MVP odds seem to be all but out of the question now for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow. Before the announcement, Burrow was widely regarded as one of the frontrunners for the league’s highest individual player award, along with Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. However, the same people who vote for the annual league-wide MVP award also vote for the All-Pro team honors, and Burrow was soundly rejected for both the first and second teams in the quarterback position by the 50 All-Pro voters.Instead, those two honors went to Jackson, who took the first-team All-Pro quarterback spot, and Allen, who took the second All-Pro quarterback spot.Among the All-Pro voters, Burrow finished a very distant third with two first-team votes. In contrast, Allen got 18 votes, and Jackson got 30 votes. Barkley, for his part, got 48 of the 50 first-place votes for the running back position. The ability to even bet on this season’s MVP is now closed off on most betting sites, with Jackson now emerging as the near-unanimous favorite to win the title.Jackson’s odds to win the title were pegged at 72% on betting site Polymarket on Sunday, one of the few remaining mainstream betting sites that still allows wagers to be placed on the award. Allen was a distant second with 26%.Burrow and Barkley each are pegged to have less than 1% odds.If Jackson wins the title, it would be his third time overall winning the honor and second year back to back. The MVP award, along with other seasonal accolades, will be announced on Feb. 6.
