MCDONALD, Ohio (WKBN) — Music makes the heart happy, and McDonald had a special guest singing for seniors: a familiar face in a new capacity.
Lou Ronghi, entertaining seniors in McDonald. They hear live music once a month in the Community Room.
“Just to hear some of those songs, those folks that just, it entertains them. They like it,” Ronghi said.
Ronghi sang a mix of old and new songs. John Mayer, Elvis, Alabama. Music is always soothing.
“It’s the way of life. If you don’t have music in your life, you might as well not get out of bed in the morning. It’s a good place to be,” Ronghi said.
Ronghi held a microphone and sang for seniors in the McDonald R.E.S.T. program. It is the same village where he wore the police chief’s badge for 15 years and would talk to the people in a different capacity.
“You know, about safety, about your surroundings. Well, now we bring up some entertainment now, and there were a lot of people who were like… ‘I never knew you could sing.’ I said I didn’t know I sang either.”
The R.E.S.T. program is funded by the Trumbull County Senior Levy and events are free to all seniors in the county. R.E.S.T. stands for Recreation, Education, Socialization, Together.
“But I think music is healing. And I think it just speaks to so many people on so many levels that it just brings out everybody,” Senior R.E.S.T. Director Colleen Chance said.
Ronghi attracted a good crowd. They were engaged in listening to his singing, and he hopes it was helping them.
“For a couple of hours, just put all your troubles away and have some fun,” Ronghi said.
