A CLASSIC CINCINNATI SECOND WINTER GREETING DRIVERS WITH SLICK, SLIPPERY ROADS, JUST DRIVING OUT THE ROADS HAVE BEEN A LITTLE SLICK JUST BY WITH WATER, AND THE ONLY THING I’VE BEEN LOOKING OUT FOR IS MAKING SURE I DON’T HYDROPLANE. PEOPLE ARE DRIVING CAUTIOUSLY, YOU KNOW? I MEAN, WE CAME UP 75 AND GOT OFF AT TYLERSVILLE AND COME DOWN THAT WAY, BUT I MEAN, IT’S JUST IT IS SLICK. OUR CREWS SPOTTING ACCIDENTS AND ROLLOVERS LIKE THIS ONE IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY WITH FALLING RAIN LEAVING LOW VISIBILITY. DRIVERS ARE ON HIGH ALERT. I WAS JUST DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, BUT IT WAS MORE COUNTRY SIDE SO THERE WAS NO STREET LIGHTS, SO I JUST TURNED ON MY FOG LIGHTS SO IT’S EASIER TO SEE. IT’S NOT JUST THE ROADS THAT ARE A CONCERN. THE FREEZING RAIN LEAVING LAWNS, MAILBOXES AND MOST NOTABLY BUSHES AND TREES COATED IN ICE. FOLKS TELLING US ICY TREES ARE DEFINITELY NOT SOMETHING THEY LIKE TO SEE. IS THAT SOMETHING THAT’S A CONCERN FOR YOU AS A RESIDENT HERE? YES, YES. LOSING POWER FOR A DAY OR TWO IS NOT FUN. SO HOPEFULLY THE TREES DON’T GET TOO MUCH ICE AND TOO HEAVY AND THAT HAPPENS. IF YOU LOOK AT LIKE ALL THE TREES AND STUFF, ALL THE POWER LINES ARE STARTING TO SAG AND STUFF FROM THE FROM THE ICE HANGING DOWN. THE BEST ADVICE WHEN THERE’S ICE, TAKE IT NICE AND SLOW. I was kind of surprised, as I didn’t expect that to happen,” says Robert Hill, a Mason resident. The freezing temperatures are a bit of a shock to the system.A classic Cincinnati second winter, greeting drivers with slick, slippery roads.”Just driving out, the roads have been a little slick, just with water. And the only thing I’ve been looking out for is making sure I don’t hydroplane,” says Victoria Huntsman, a Mason resident.Our crews spotted accidents and rollovers in Greater Cincinnati, out on the roads. With the rain coming down heavily, leaving low visibility, drivers were on high alert.”I was just driving in a residential area, but it was more countryside, so there is no streetlights, so I just turn on my fog lights so it’s easier to see,” Huntsman said.It wasn’t just the roads causing concern – the freezing rain leaving lawns, mailboxes and most notably bushes and trees coated in ice. Folks are telling us that icy trees are definitely not something they like to see.”Losing power for a day or two is never fun. Hopefully, the trees don’t get too heavy with ice, and that doesn’t happen,” says Hill.Experts are reminding folks to take it slow in conditions like these so you can get to where you’re heading safely.
