SEARCY, Ark. – Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus is set for an appearance at Searcy’s Harding University in January.
The multi-time champion will appear on campus as part of its American Studies Institute Distinguished Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 27, 2025, at the university’s Benson Auditorium at 201 S. Blakeney Street. University officials have extended an invitation to all students, faculty, staff and community members.
Nicklaus is considered golf history’s greatest champion, having won a record 18 professional major championships over a career that touched parts of six decades. He began playing golf at just 10 years old, having been introduced to the sport by his father, Charlie Nicklaus.
Jack Nicklaus would later become one of the most heralded amateurs, with an NCAA title and two U.S. Amateur Championships in 1959 and 1961. Nicklaus won his first professional event and major championship at age 21, dethroning Arnold Palmer at the 1962 U.S. Open.
He has claimed 120 professional victories worldwide and 18 majors, including six Masters, five PGA Championships, four U.S. Opens and three Open Championships.
His charity work has led to him being one of the four Americans in history who won the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005, the Congressional Gold Medal in 2015 and the Lincoln Medal in 2018.
“I think I speak for all of us at Harding when I say that we`re in awe of Jack Nicklaus’ legacy, and we’re elated to have him join us for our distinguished lecture series,” Harding president Mike Williams said. “His career achievement, the lessons he has learned and the way he’s using his platform for the good of others are evidence of a life of inspired purpose.”
University officials said Nicklaus will join a long list of speakers at Harding University. For more information on the University’s American Studies Institute and ticketing and event details, visit Harding.edu/ASI or 501-279-4497.
