Maricopa Police Department this afternoon identified the parent arrested at Leading Edge Academy around the time school let out yesterday.
What was originally reported as a DUI investigation in the charter school’s parking lot turned out to be a tense situation inside the school building, the police spokesperson told InMaricopa.
Ricardo Deleon, 35, lives on the Ak-Chin Indian Community, according to public records. Deleon around 2 p.m. yesterday was arrested and booked into the Pinal County jail on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing.
“Mr. Deleon tried to pick up a student from the school and refused to ID himself,” said the spokesperson, Monica Williams. “When the school refused to release the student, Deleon became irate and caused a large disturbance in the office.”
Police were called when Deleon refused to leave.
“The officer observed Deleon to be highly impaired,” Williams said.
In an email to parents that was provided to InMaricopa, school officials said there was no credible threat to parents or staff.
