UPDATE: January 12 at 10:28 a.m.
Rosebud County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana Department of Transportation have announced that Highway 212 is closed Sunday morning due to severe driving conditions.
All sections of the highway, from Crow Agency through Lame Deer, Ashland, Broadus and Hammond are closed.
“The snow is piling up and so were the trucks. Some drivers got a written invite to come back and see the Judge since they didn’t put tire chains on. The snow is supposed to continue falling until it quits,” the Rosebud County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office recommends staying home until the conditions improve.
For those on the Northern Cheyenne reservation, an emergency shelter is open at the Boys and Girls Club is power is lost.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this article identified the US 212 as the Beartooth Highway. That is incorrect as the Beartooth Highway is only a portion of US 212.
