DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Dayton man is facing more than 100 additional counts related to a case involving the alleged abuse of children.
Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. confirmed Kyle Knox, 38, of Dayton, is facing more than 100 new counts:
- 74 counts of endangering children – sexual matter
- 20 counts of endangering children – cruelly abuse/torture
- Seven counts of aggravated arson – harm to persons
- Four counts of endangering children – abuse (serious physical harm)
- One count of strangulation – serious physical harm
Heck also said Kayla Shepherd, 29, of Dayton, faces two additional counts:
- One count of aggravated possession of drugs
- One count of drug paraphernalia offense
According to Heck, Dayton police officers responded on Nov. 18, 2024, to Arlene Avenue after someone called authorities. When officers arrived, they reportedly located two children walking in the street who allegedly claimed they were “seeking help” after reportedly being “left home alone.”
One of the children, an 8-year-old boy, allegedly had “significant, visible injuries,” but more upon inspection at the hospital, according to Heck.
“At the hospital, it was discovered the 8‐year‐old boy had significant injuries that were not readily visible at the time police spoke with the two children,” said the release.
Both Knox and Shepherd were indicted on four charges of endangering children in November 2024.
“Further investigation revealed the extent of the horrific abuse the children were subjected to, especially as it relates to the 8‐year‐old,” said the release.
“The systemic abuse these children went through is simply unimaginable,” said Heck. “Thankfully, the children were able to escape from the hell that had become their existence and sought help.”
Both will be arraigned on their new indicted charges on Jan. 9.
