Interloop’s Organic Kapas Project Earns EU Organic Certification

Denim, knitwear and hosiery manufacturer Interloop Limited has earned EU Organic Standards Certification for its Organic Kapas project in Pakistan. The certification, which was awarded by Control Union Sri Lanka, comes after three years of collaboration with 1,000 farmer partners in Pakistan.

Representing 5,090 acres and producing 7,000 bales of organic cotton, the farms in the Organic Kapas program have worked with Interloop to incorporate organic farming methods and digital tools to their operations. These changes allow the growers to improve farm efficiency, soil health and access to premium markets, leading to environmental and economic progress.

To earn EU Organic Standards Certification, farmers must adhere to strict guidelines that prohibit the use of synthetic pesticides, mineral fertilizers and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Producers also must engage in practices such as diversified crop rotation, maintaining a closed nutrient cycle and keeping detailed records to prove compliance.

“This certification validates our approach to building resilient, transparent supply chains, where

our farmers thrive amid shifting global standards,” said Navid Fazil, CEO at Interloop Limited.

Organic Kapas program farmers have tapped into Interloop’s proprietary traceability platform, Looptrace, which tracks 42,000 farmers, ensuring full supply chain transparency from farm to finished product. Member farmers also have access to Interloop’s Loopkisan agricultural management app, which was piloted with 15 organic farmers and allows direct data input, providing real-time insights into farm practices.

Along with the certification, Interloop has launched its third mobile health clinic in neighboring Punjab, which gives more than 35,000 people in rural farming communities access to healthcare with a focus on the care of women and children.

Just a few months ago, Interloop’s newest apparel plant in Faisalabad, Pakistan, received LEED Platinum certification from the United States Green Building Council. The 1.25 million-square-foot facility allowed Interloop to scale its production to 45 million pieces annually, primarily through the use of automation. Interloop’s two hosiery plants in Pakistan have earned LEED Gold certification, while its denim facility also garnered LEED Platinum certification.

Interloop produces apparel and hosiery for brands such as Adidas, H&M, Guess and Nike.
