Kennington have been dealt a blow after losing Rajan Sahni to Southern Counties East title contenders VCD.
Sahni has been in great form during Ton’s march up the Premier Division table, leading to a chance to join the Vickers.
It’s one he’s decided to take with VCD second in the league, six points behind leaders Faversham, with two games in hand.
Winger Sahni was in his second spell with Ton, having rejoined after suffering a bad injury while with Phoenix Sports.
He’s earned his chance to win promotion with VCD.
Ton boss Dan Scorer said: “It’s a great move for him.
“He’s a player of real quality, we were delighted to get him back and I was really pleased to get the opportunity to work with him again after him doing so well when he was at the club previously.
“He’s got back, he’s regained that confidence after a bad injury.
“He’s just started to hit some really good form actually, so it’s obviously gutting for us.
“Moving to a side like VCD, for me it’s not a sidewards step, because they’re a club that are showing real progression.
“They look probably one of the firm favourites to go up this year, whether that be automatic or via the play-offs.
“They’ve liked what they’ve seen and they want to bolster their squad for the run-in and that’s fair enough.
“So he goes with my best wishes because he’s a top lad, he’s given us everything.
“I hope they get the job done now because it’ll be nice for him to have had a big season with two great clubs that are going to be there to support him.
“After a tough season last year, it’ll be nice for him to come back and have a positive one this year.”
Kennington’s fixture at Sutton Athletic last weekend was called off following a second pitch inspection.
They’d already arrived at the ground having been informed by the referee at 11am the game would go ahead.
“It was a tough one, I do feel that the pitch was playable, as did Sutton,” said Scorer.
“But it was one of those, the weather wasn’t perfect, there was quite a bit of light rain, and I think the referee’s main concern was the fact that if the game started, it wouldn’t come to a finish at 90 minutes.”
Kennington return to action at home to fourth-placed Punjab this Saturday (3pm).
Punjab lost an extraordinary game at Rusthall last weekend, going down 4-3, having led 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining.
But they bounced back with a 3-0 midweek win over Corinthian.
Scorer, whose side are 12th, said: “We’re under no illusions that’s probably going to be one of our toughest tests in a long time.
“They’re another side that are well on track to be in the play-off positions come the end of the season, so they’ll be desperate to come down and give their all and get three points.
“We’ve just got to keep reminding ourselves of what our targets are.
“We’re five points away from our total from last season, and we’re eight points off that 40-point mark, which is where we want to get to as quickly as possible.”
