Kentucky Gov. Beshear declares state of emergency ahead of heavy rain
GOT ANY LEFTOVERS HERE? GOT ANYTHING I CAN GRAB? I MEAN, LITERALLY WALK IN ANYWHERE YOU CAN’T FORGET IF YOU HEAD INTO LITERALLY ANY STORE. LIKE, IT MADE IT EASY FOR YOU. THE BALLOONS HAVE BEEN A CHALLENGE FOR US WITH TODDLERS. EVERY TIME WE WALK INTO THE GROCERY STORE, THAT’S ALL THEY WANT IS THE GIANT MYLAR BALLOONS. AND YOU KNOW WHAT? A LOT OF TIMES I CAVE BECAUSE THEY DON’T LAST TOO LONG. SO IT’S FUN. RANDI AT LEAST TO CELEBRATE YOURSELF, YOUR PET, YOUR LOVED ONES. LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS FORECAST, BECAUSE WE GOT A COUPLE OF THINGS COMING THAT PEOPLE NEED TO BE AWARE OF. SO TODAY, SUNSHINE, BRING IT ON REALLY EASY. IF YOU HAVE SOME SORT OF BIG PLAN FOR TODAY INTO THE WEEKEND, YOUR PLANS ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE IMPACTED BY HEAVY RAIN SATURDAY AND THEN SOME SNOW ON SUNDAY. SO LET’S BREAK IT ALL DOWN FOR YOU. UPCOMING ISSUES REALLY START THIS WEEKEND AND THERE’LL BE SOME AFTER EFFECTS INTO NEXT WEEK. SO SATURDAY RAIN, SOME OF IT QUITE HEAVY. AND YOU KNOW THIS TIME OF YEAR I PUT UP SNOWFALL TOTALS FAIRLY FREQUENTLY. BUT RAINFALL TOTALS EXPECTED TO BE IN THE 1 TO 3 INCH RANGE ACROSS OUR AREA. THAT’S A LOT OF WATER FALLING. IT HAS TO GO SOMEWHERE AND YOU’LL SEE THE IMPACTS OF THAT INTO NEXT WEEK. SUNDAY THE RAIN WILL CHANGE OVER TO SNOW EARLY. WE’RE TALKING PROBABLY BY 6 OR 7 A.M., AND THEN WE’LL HAVE OFF AND ON SNOW BANDS THROUGH THE DAY AND AROUND AN INCH, MAYBE TWO INCHES OF SNOW ON SUNDAY. SO A COUPLE INCHES OF RAIN FOLLOWED UP WITH A COUPLE INCHES OF SNOW. AND THEN WE’RE WATCHING THE OHIO RIVER RISING VERY RAPIDLY INTO NEXT WEEK, WITH ADDITIONAL SNOW POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. RIGHT NOW EVERYTHING IS QUIET, SO ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS. IT’S NOT GOING TO LAST VERY LONG HERE. AS WE GO THROUGH YOUR VALENTINE’S DAY, STARTING OUT WITH TEMPERATURES DOWN TO THE TEENS, IT IS 15 RIGHT NOW WITH CLEAR SKIES. YOU’LL NOTICE BY THE AFTERNOON MAKING IT UP. MAYBE A COUPLE OF TOWNS HIT 40. THAT WOULD BE GREAT. CLOUDS ROLL IN THIS EVENING. IT HELPS THE TEMPERATURES FROM FREEFALLING TONIGHT SO IT WON’T BE SUPER DUPER COLD. IF YOU DO HAVE ELABORATE DATE NIGHT PLANS TONIGHT, FLOOD WATCH GOES INTO EFFECT TOMORROW AFTERNOON, AND YOU’LL NOTICE THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS KIND OF EXPANDED IT NORTHWARD A LITTLE BIT MORE, BECAUSE NOW IT LOOKS LIKE MORE OF GREATER CINCINNATI COULD SEE UPWARDS OF TWO INCHES OF RAIN. LET’S GET TO THE HOUR BY HOUR OUTLOOK. BY THE TIME WE GET TO SIX AND 7 A.M. TOMORROW MORNING, RAIN IS MOVING IN BRIEFLY ON THE LEADING EDGE. THERE COULD BE A LITTLE BIT OF FREEZING RAIN, BUT I ACTUALLY THINK OUR TEMPERATURES ARE ABOVE THAT. SO RAIN MOVES IN SATURDAY. MOST PEOPLE GET THEIR DAY STARTED AND IT IS SOAKING WET OUTSIDE THROUGH THE MORNING. CONSISTENT RAIN. AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE TRENDS, YOU’LL ALSO NOTICE SOME OF THE HEAVIER STUFF HERE TO THE SOUTH. THAT’S WHERE OUR HIGHER RAINFALL TOTALS ARE GOING TO END UP BEING, I THINK INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON, THERE IS A LITTLE BIT OF A LULL, ESPECIALLY TO THE NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER. AND THEN WE GET INTO THE EVENING. RAIN FILLS BACK IN AGAIN, COMING DOWN PRETTY GOOD OVERNIGHT SATURDAY, AND THEN BY ABOUT 6 OR 7 A.M. SUNDAY MORNING, WE’LL BE TRANSITIONING FROM RAIN TO SNOW. SO A QUICK LITTLE BURST OF SNOW RIGHT ON THE TAIL END OF ALL OF THAT RAIN. AND THEN WITH THE NORTHWESTERLY WINDS THROUGH THE DAY, YOU’RE GOING TO SEE JUST OCCASIONAL BANDS OF SNOW HERE AND THERE, AND COULD PICK UP A QUICK DUSTING AT A FEW OF THOSE. YOU’VE GOT AN INCH, INCH AND A HALF OF TOTAL SNOWFALL ON SUNDAY. SO FOR TODAY, 38 DEGREES. WANT TO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT SATURDAY? AND THOSE EXPECTED RAINFALL TOTALS 1 TO 2IN OF RAIN TO THE NORTH AND WEST. MUCH OF GREATER CINCINNATI COULD BE TWO. ALMOST THREE INCHES OF RAINFALL. AND THEN THE POTENTIAL FOR THE HIGHEST RAINFALL TOTALS A LITTLE FURTHER TO THE SOUTH AND EAST, WHERE THREE INCHES OF RAIN IS POSSIBLE. SUNDAY. OF COURSE, WE’LL HAVE THE SNOW LOOKING LIKE AN INCH OR SO, TEMPERATURES FALLING OFF INTO THE 20S. SO 47 IS THE HIGH, BUT YOU’RE NOT GOING TO BE AWAKE FOR ANY OF THAT. IT WILL BE A COLDER DAY FOR US. MONDAY AND TUESDAY ARE DRY AND THEN THE POTENTIAL WE’RE WATCHING FOR MAYBE SOME MORE SNOW WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.
Kentucky Gov. Beshear declares state of emergency ahead of heavy rain
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency ahead of heavy rain set to hit the area.Beshear said significant rain could prompt a “major weather event.”Two to five inches of rain is expected across the commonwealth and could result in river flooding across the state.Ahead of the rain, Beshear said he’s signing a state of emergency so they can utilize National Guard members and boat crews to respond if needed.”We’ve been through too many of these to not be fully prepared,” Beshear said. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials and crews and local emergency management leaders are also staying on alert.“We want everyone to be careful,” Beshear said. “The amount of rain coming down will make it hard to drive, and flash flooding, especially across our roads, can create dangerous conditions. And remember, don’t drive through standing water, it can have a current, and it is incredibly dangerous.”Beshear said he’s also implementing the state’s price gouging laws to protect Kentuckians from overpriced goods and services as they clean up and recover from the storm. Here in Cincinnati, most of the area could easily see 1-2 inches of rain. Areas to the southeast of Cincinnati could surpass 3 inches of rainfall just on Saturday. Low-lying flood-prone areas could have standing water after the rain.
