LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) — Lisbon is looking to bring a fireworks show to the village for an Independence Day celebration.
The Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce says it’s been years since the village had one but they need help from the public.
Fireworks on or around the Fourth of July are pretty common. Many communities host their own fireworks show and Lisbon would like to as well.
“Because we don’t have one in Lisbon. We haven’t had one in Lisbon for many, many years. Our residents go to Salem, East Liverpool, East Palestine,” said Judy Noel, Executive Director for the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce.
Noel says, with permission, they would like to hold it at the Columbiana County Fair Grounds.
“The fairgrounds is the ideal location. It’s certainly located in Lisbon. There’s plenty of parking. There’s a covered area,” Noel said.
Noel says they would like to make a day-long celebration out of it.
“Have people bring their families, have food trucks, have maybe a band and just enjoy the day together,” she said.
But everything costs money and it’s all strictly donations. Noel is estimating it would cost $12,500 for just the fireworks along with $2,500 for other charges. Plus, they need volunteers.
“People to man the garbage cans just to empty garbage cans. We need people to set up the food trucks, just to direct traffic, to direct people where to go,” Noel said.
The goal is if they can do the fireworks show this year, it can become a tradition.
“It sets us up for the 250-year celebration for next year…so it’s kind of like a stepping stone for bigger and better things,” Noel said.
The tentative date for the fireworks show is June 28.
