Lois Lee Davis | 103Lois Lee Davis, 103, of Jerseyville, died peacefully at 11:43 a.m., Friday, Jan. 10, 2025 at the Villas of Holly Brook in Jerseyville.
She was born in Jersey County, Illinois on Sept. 1, 1921, and was the daughter of Lee and Martha (Mathew) Davis.
Lois grew up on the family farm, where she was instilled with the value of hard work and tenacity. She graduated in 1939 from Jersey Township High School in Jerseyville, and pursued higher education attending Illinois State University in Normal, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and later her Master’s Degree from University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
She began her teaching career in Blue Mound and then spent four years each in both New Athens and Roodhouse, before accepting employment with the Jersey Community Unit School District #100, where she was a teacher in the Business Education Department. She dedicated 20 years with Jerseyville before her retirement in 1980.
She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Nature Institute of Alton, and the Great Rivers Chapter Bird Club of the Illinois Audubon Society.
She also enjoyed traveling extensively, visiting Switzerland, Europe, and all throughout the United States, with her absolute favorite destination being Alaska.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews and their spouses, Paula Davis of Godfrey, Cynthia and Larry Monckton of Alton, Edward and Debbie Davis of Kane, and Rick and Julie Davis of Jerseyville; along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister in-law, Charles and Thelma Davis; a sister, Ruth Davis; and a dear friend, Elizabeth Moore.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m., until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., Tuesday Jan. 21, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Joel Lohr will officiate.
Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville.
