MARION, Ill. (WSIL) – UPDATE: 9:15 p.m. — A man has been arrested on a DUI charge in connection with a crash involving a school bus.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says Joshua Jessie was driving northbound in a 2015 Gold Chevrolet towards a school bus in the southbound lane of traffic on Route 37. They say he veered off the road and overcorrected, crashing into the side of the bus.
The sheriff’s office then said Jessie continued going south and then crashed into another passenger vehicle.
Both of the drivers were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The sheriff’s office said they are doing well and are stable.
The drivers of both passenger vehicles were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Both drivers have since been reported to be doing well and are in stable condition.
Jessie was cited for the following criminal offenses:
- Aggravated DUI -Drug
- Possess Adult Use Cannabis In Motor Vehicle
- Improper Lane Usage
- Fail to Reduce Speed To Avoid An Accident
- No Seat Belt
- Operating uninsured Vehicle

Jessie is still currently in the hospital due to his injuries as of Friday night, the sheriff’s office reported.

MARION, Ill. (WSIL) — A crash involving a school bus and two passenger cars resulted in minor injuries south of Marion on Friday.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened on December 6, at 3:45 p.m. along Illinois Route 37, just south of Marion near Maxine Lane.
The sheriff’s office said two vehicles collided with each other, which then hit a school bus, which had 27 students on board at the time.
The two vehicles had significant damage and the bus had minor damage, the sheriff’s office reported.
The Williamson County Sheriff Jeff Diederich said there were minor injuries to those involved in the passenger vehicles, with no injuries reported with the students on the school bus.
The students were transferred to the Marion Junior High School per protocol and will be released to parents.
“We are thankful that the involvement of the school bus was secondary to the primary accident and there no reported student injuries at this time”, stated Sheriff Jeff Diederich.
The crash is being investigated be the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
The roadway was cleared at around 4:45 p.m.
