First InMaricopa: Maricopa Police, Fire and Medical Departments were dispatched to the railroad tracks near Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway and Plainview Street just before 3:30 p.m. this afternoon for reports that a person had been struck by a train.

Responding crews determined an adult man had been struck and died at the scene, Maricopa’s public safety spokesperson, Monica Williams, told InMaricopa.

Due to the location of the incident, Union Pacific’s police department will be handling the investigation, Williams said.

The man, a pedestrian, “was struck while walking on the tracks, not in a crossing,” Union Pacific spokesperson Kristen South told InMaricopa.

The train crew was not hurt, South said. Union Pacific’s investigation is ongoing.
