Ms. Ross’s larger data center clients include Amazon/AWS, META, Microsoft and Oppidan.

Recognized in the top 50 engineering and facility planning firms, Salas O’Brien has hundreds of locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, comprising over 3,500 employee-owners throughout North America. The firm provides architectural design and engineering for public, private and governmental entities. Before Ms. Ross’s current position, she served as the firm’s Senior Vice President and Director of Critical Environments, contributing to Salas O’Brien’s growth and reputation.

With a career spanning over 35 years, Ms. Ross’s journey in architecture began while working a summer job at a composite metal manufacturing company where she observed a female architectural drafter. This experience led her to pursue a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Idaho, laying the foundation for a career characterized by critical thinking and design success.

Throughout her notable career in the industry, Ms. Ross has designed and constructed small and large-scale data centers. She is particularly recognized for a 3-story, 295,000 square foot AWS data center in California that highlights her technical proficiency and multiteam management skills. Ms. Ross was sought after by a developer to create a data center rollout program. She designed two prototype edge data centers that are then adapted to site specific needs and are being deployed across the US. Currently, her teams are working on 18 active projects in this program, with the expectation of another 15 in the next 2 years.

Ms. Ross’s affiliation with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and certification with the National Council of Architectural Registration Board (NCAB) underscores her commitment to excellence and the highest standards of architectural practice. Within the critical environment industry, she participates in her local chapter as well as nationally in 7×24 Exchange, the primer organization for data center design, and speaks at the national level with other industry affiliates.

Passionate about community service, Ms. Ross volunteers with multiple organizations. Brenda believes her professional accomplishments stem from developing courage, confidence, and character in the Girl Scouts as a youth where she earned her First Class, the highest award of GS achievement (equal to BSA Eagle Scout). As a lifetime Girl Scout she has been a camp counselor, troop leader, and now does adult training for GS leaders. A volunteer Ride Leader for the Cascade Bicycle Club, Brenda combines leadership with a dedication to improving lives through cycling. Ms Ross is consistently a top 100 fundraiser in the BikeMS program which supports MS research. She has a passion to support this research for a cure in honor of her mother who passed away from MS complications. She also fundraises for Fred Hutch cancer research and rides in the Obliteride events.

Ms. Ross attributes her success to perfectionism, a relentless pursuit of excellence, and an unwavering determination to overcome challenges. Excelling professionally as a female in the male-dominated field of architecture and specializing in an extremely technical and complicated building type Ms. Ross often finds herself the only woman ‘at the table’. She believes that by being successful and visible she inspires other capable women to pursue their career objectives and brings more women to the leadership table. Looking to the future Ms. Ross continues to be committed to being visible as a role model in her profession, contributing to her community and making a meaningful contribution in the world around her through cutting-edge architectural design.
