In this role, Mr. Gaskins is responsible for administrative duties and investigating major incidents. His dedication to his profession is evident in his commitment to working beyond the standard 40-hour week, which he attributes as a critical factor in his success.
Before joining the Georgetown Police Department, Mr. Gaskins worked in driving instruction as a police training instructor with the Pentagon Police from 2005 to 2010. During this time, he also served as a police officer with the U.S. Pentagon Police between 2005 and 2009. During this influential time in his career, he garnered success and expertise overseeing security processes and providing high-quality law enforcement to the Pentagon and Department of Defense personnel. He also managed investigations into criminal offenses on federal properties in collaboration with team members.
In addition to his roles in law enforcement, Mr. Gaskins contributed to academia as a faculty member at the University of Phoenix from 2008 to 2013. His proficiency as an ethics instructor is well-regarded.
Mr. Gaskins earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a focus on police science and a Master of Science in information technology from Colorado Technical University in 2008. In addition to his degrees, he completed the Firearms Instructor Course from Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office Training Research and Development Section in 2004, the Law Enforcement Driver Instructor Training Program from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers in 2009 and the Rapid Deployment Immediate Action Team Instructor Development Course from S.O.R.D. International in 2009. Mr. Gaskins is also a certified law enforcement instructor.
Besides his full-time career endeavors, Mr. Gaskins volunteered as a law enforcement driving instructor at the Adams County Sheriff’s Academy from 2012 to 2021.
As an accomplished author, Mr. Gaskins published “With Full Intent” in 2024, a historical crime fiction novel inspired by stories shared by his grandparents about their experiences in Southside Virginia. He has also written several articles for PoliceOne, including ‘The Ethics of Risk Assessment for Law Enforcement,’ ‘What Does The Buzzword ‘Community Policing’ Really Mean?,’ and ‘Ethics in Leadership: Applying Aristotle in Police Work.’ Additionally, Mr. Gaskins authored ‘Unexpected Haze’ for Flight Training Magazine.
Mr. Gaskins has received numerous accolades, including several distinguished service awards, the Medal of Valor in 2017 and the Superior Service Award from Georgetown Police in 2018. He was also nominated for Officer of the Year in 2016.
In preparation for the future, Mr. Gaskins plans to write another book and explore new areas within his profession that offer more flexibility to work from home.
