In this role, he is an internal consultant for various products, focusing on elastomer and metallic materials. His responsibilities include new product development, failure analysis, and manufacturing and technical engineering support. Dr. Kyei-Manu’s expertise in material science engineering, elastomer testing and filler reinforcement in rubber materials has been instrumental in his success.
Before his most recent work at SLB, Dr. Kyei-Manu was a doctoral researcher at Queen Mary University of London from 2019 to 2024 where he studied the effect of fillers in rubber materials used for making tires. During this time, he collaborated with undergraduate and master’s students on their final-year projects, which fueled his passion for mentoring emerging engineers and scientists. Previously, Dr. Kyei-Manu worked as a materials engineer at SLB from 2016 to 2019 and as a completions field engineer between 2014 and 2015 in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Kyei-Manu’s career began with internships providing him valuable industry experience. He initially interned with Ferro Solutions in 2008, then completed three internships with SLB between 2010 and 2014. Earlier, he gained research experience as a research staff member in the laboratories of Professor Angela Belcher and Professor Robert S. Langer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2007 to 2008. Moreover, Dr. Kyei-Manu completed an externship at Deutsche Bank in 2008.
Dr. Kyei-Manu’s academic journey included a Bachelor of Science in materials science and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2011, a Master of Science in materials science and engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013, and a Doctor of Philosophy in materials science and engineering from Queen Mary University of London in 2024. In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Kyei-Manu holds a CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) trainer certficate, reflecting his dedication to personal fitness and well-being.
In addition to his full-time career endeavors, Dr. Kyei-Manu’s membership in industry-related organizations like IOM3 and the rubber division of the American Chemical Society further underscores his commitment to advancing the field of materials science engineering.
Dr. Kyei-Manu’s contributions to academia have been recognized through awards such as Best Paper Published by a Student as a First Name Author and Best Student Presentation in 2023.
Looking toward the future, he remains steadfast about mentoring and collaborating with students and envisions expanding this impact through potential roles as an adjunct or part-time lecturer. Through these endeavors, he aims to inspire and guide the next generation of engineers and scientists.
