It took at least three tow trucks to haul away the drywall that spilled into the roadway on State Route 347 near Maricopa this morning.

Northbound traffic at 9 a.m. was still moving at a snail’s pace after a construction crew’s trailer overturned into the median at 7 a.m. near Casa Blanca Road.

Gila River Police Department spokesperson Teaya Enos and an Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesperson both told us they did not respond to the spill. It’s unclear if any agency responded — upsetting some commuters.

“You’re telling me that y’all are driving slow as hell this morning on the 347 and making everyone late to work because you wanted to stare at a pile of trash that fell off a truck coming southbound into Maricopa?” asked a bewildered Autumn Tischauser from The Villages.

Private workers were clearing the refuse shortly after 9 a.m. Two tow trucks loaded to capacity with drywall had left the scene and a third one was being loaded.

Southbound traffic was moving normally by 9:30 a.m.
