Meet some of Utah's first babies of 2025

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — While some people welcomed the new year at parties, others welcomed the newest members of their families as the first babies of 2025 were born — some just minutes after the clock struck midnight.

The first baby born at an Intermountain Health hospital in Utah in 2025 was Zyani Tala Hyatt, who was born at 12:03 a.m. on Jan. 1. Her parents — Marygene and Bronson Hyatt of Murray, Utah — said Zyani was originally due on Jan. 23.

“I was scheduled for a Cesarean delivery on Jan. 16, but I went into early labor last night,” Marygene said.

Marygene and Bronson were celebrating on New Year’s Eve with a movie and some fireworks before heading to the Intermountain Riverton Hospital around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2024.

The parents told ABC4.com that they have a “walking distance hospital” from their house, but decided to drive from Murray to Riverton because of their past experiences with the hospital and the birth of their son, Bruxs, who is now 4.

“They took such good care of Bruxs that we didn’t think twice about coming back out here,” Bronson told ABC4.com. “When it came to having our family safe, clean … Nobody can touch your kid without having a proper tag.”

Zyani is Marygene and Bronson’s second child. The couple said Bruxs was not excited about getting a baby sister at first, but he later began telling strangers that he was getting a baby sister.

Marygene and Bronson received a certificate from the hospital declaring Zyani the first baby born in an Intermountain Health hospital in 2025. They were also given a gift basket.

“The couple named their baby Zyani because it’s similar to a word that means gift from God and it’s similar to Marygene’s mother’s maiden name,” Intermountain Health said in a press release. “And the baby’s middle name, Tala is the goddess of the stars in Marygene’s native language of Tagalog.”

In Salt Lake City, the University of Utah Hospital helped welcome baby Ralph just after 2 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2025. Ralph’s parents were also given a gift basket to celebrate his being the first baby born in the U of U hospital in 2025.

“Congratulations to the growing family on their special delivery!” the hospital said on social media.
