SPOKANE, Wash. — A new micro-hotel and apartment building near the Ridpath Apartments in downtown Spokane is hoping to help revitalize the area.
The Symons Block Hotel is redefining how it fosters connections by adding a unique twist to the visitor experience.
“We’ve added this extra layer of playfulness, which is totally intentional,” said property manager Troy Puyear. “We want people to come here and not only be able to have a place to sleep in between appointments or while visiting Spokane, but to feel that sense of playfulness. To understand a little bit that this is a community where people genuinely care about each other and their city.”
The more than 100-year-old building is located on the corner of Howard Street and Sprague Avenue. It is now filled with vibrant colors, unique decor and carefully chosen furniture that bring it back to life.
The idea behind the new design is simple: offer a welcoming atmosphere that makes both guests and residents feel safe, something that has been a challenge in the neighborhood.
“Anything that we can do to help bring back that sense of ‘Hey, we need to treasure our downtown.’ It’s the beating heart of Spokane, in my opinion, and we need to make sure that heartbeat is healthy,” Puyear said.
Puyear said this improvement of the area has been a top priority and he believes this new adventure will help make a big difference.
“The apartments, obviously giving people a place to live, a place that’s downtown,” he said. “But the other thing is this is going to be open for certain time ranges to the public.”
Some of the public spaces in the building were already in use for First Friday, an event that showcases local artists throughout Spokane.
Other than the nine hotel rooms, the building also has 14 apartments inside, four of which are available to rent.
