Owners Joe and Nachi Shea are trying to revive the past through their reimagined version of The Ground Round that will soon be open on 271 Grafton Street in Shrewsbury.
The nostalgia-evoking, restaurant chain left Massachusetts more than 20 years ago.
While they haven’t identified an official opening date, the Sheas expect they will welcome customers in about 1-2 months.
“We quickly learned that this is not just a restaurant we’re building. This is kind of a memory we’re bringing back to everybody,” explains Nachi.
The Sheas told Boston 25 News that they’ve been spending every waking hour, outside of their full- time jobs, painting, assembling furniture, and everything in-between.
Joe says, “It’s not just eat and leave; it’s going to be a true experience.” That means bringing back entertainment favorites such as magicians and people making balloon animals. They also plan to introduce live music regularly, featuring local bands.
A tradition you likely will not experience: The clown. They say enough people expressed that they didn’t care for it because the clown scared them when they were little.
As for food favorites, they didn’t go into much detail about what dishes will be returning. However, their goal is to make them tastier. Nachi explains, ” I think you can get mediocre food in a lot of different places, but we’re hoping that the attraction is not just going to be the gimmicks or the entertainment, it’s going to be the food as well.”
At this point, the Sheas have been getting many questions on social media leading up to the big opening, which includes people asking if they plan to open more locations.
While they are open to more restaurants, they can’t make it happen on their own, like they are right now.Their hope is to have discussions with restauranteurs or others in the community who believe in The Ground Round brand.
